Rewiring
Rewiring old apartments and houses
We replace the old electrical installation, often aluminium wiring, with a new copper one, with separate circuits, a new panel and residual current protection. We work in apartments and houses in Timiș and Hunedoara, and the first assessment is done from photos or video.
In short
Why an old installation needs rewiring
Many apartments in old blocks of flats still have aluminium wiring, designed for a few light bulbs, a fridge and a TV. Today the same installation supplies a hob, oven, water heater, washing machine and air conditioning. Aluminium connections oxidise and loosen over time, which leads to sockets that heat up, breakers that trip and a risk of fire.
When rewiring, we remove the old conductors, pull in new copper conductors, split the circuits by room and by appliance and install a new panel. At the end we test everything and hand over the labelled panel diagram.
The best time is before a renovation, before plastering, tiling and painting. If you already live there, we agree the order of the work together.
We use NYM-J and NYY-J copper cables, Hager and ABB devices, Busch-Jaeger or Gira sockets (German Schuko standard), Kaiser boxes and WAGO and Phoenix Contact terminals: only tested products, sourced mainly from Germany.
We never rewire an installation without residual current protection. The RCD is the most important protection for people: it cuts the power when someone could get an electric shock. We don't consider a new installation finished without it.
What is included
- Assessment of the existing installation, from photos or video
- Replacing the aluminium conductors with copper conductors
- Separate circuits for the kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning and large appliances
- Sockets on 2.5 mm² copper cable with a B16 circuit breaker, lighting on 1.5 mm² with B10 (not C16 and C10)
- Connections in junction boxes with spring connectors, no twisted wires and insulating tape
- Busch-Jaeger or Gira sockets, German Schuko standard, with spring-clamp terminals, not screw terminals
- Circuit breakers in the panel connected with a busbar, not with wires
- New electrical panel with Hager or ABB FlexLine devices, circuit breakers (MCBs) and residual current protection
- New sockets and switches, including extra sockets where needed
- Earthing check and measurements at the end
- Panel diagram, labelled by circuit
Warning signs
Signs that your installation needs rewiring
Breakers trip often
Especially when you switch on several appliances at once: the circuits are overloaded.
Warm sockets or a burning smell
Loose contacts or undersized conductors. Do not put off the check.
Aluminium conductors
Typical of old blocks of flats. They oxidise at the connections and heat up.
Extension leads everywhere
Too few sockets for the number of appliances you use today.
Panel with old fuses
Cartridge fuses and no residual current protection.
Flickering lights
They can point to a loose connection on the circuit or in the panel.
How we work
From photos to the finished job
You contact us
On WhatsApp, by phone or through the form. Tell us what needs doing and where.
We assess from photos or video
You send us photos or a short video. We only come on site if needed.
You get a written quote
Work, materials and timeline, clearly set out before we start.
We do the work and test it
We work cleanly, test everything and hand over the documentation.
Price
How much rewiring costs
We do not give a fixed price "per apartment" or "per house", because every job is different. Instead, we give a clear hourly rate and a written quote before we start. The price depends on the floor area, the number of circuits and sockets and the materials you choose.
All rates- Labour from 250 lei + VAT per hour per electrician (302.50 lei incl. VAT)
- A minimum of one hour is charged
- Materials and travel are charged separately, itemised in the written quote
- The assessment from photos or video and the quote are free
- Payment is in lei (RON)
Frequently asked questions
Questions about rewiring
How much does it cost to rewire an apartment?
It depends on the number of rooms, how many circuits and sockets you want and the materials you choose, so there is no fixed price per apartment. Labour starts from 250 lei + VAT per hour per electrician, and materials are charged separately. Send us photos of the panel and the rooms on WhatsApp and we will prepare a free written quote.
Do the walls have to be opened up for rewiring?
In most cases, yes: channels (chases) are cut into the walls for the new cable routes, which is why we recommend rewiring before painting and tiling. Once we have seen the photos, we tell you which option suits your case.
Can I live in the apartment while it is being rewired?
Usually yes, if we work in stages. There will, however, be periods without power in the rooms we are working in, and dust from cutting the wall channels. We agree the order of the work together before we start.
Why do you install sockets with spring clamps, not screws?
In sockets with spring-clamp terminals, the conductor is held by a spring, with constant pressure. Screw terminals can loosen over time, through heating and cooling or through use, and a loose contact heats up. That is why we only install sockets with spring clamps in the walls, from Busch-Jaeger or Gira, German Schuko standard.
Why should aluminium be replaced with copper?
Aluminium conductors oxidise at the connections, loosen over time and heat up more easily under today's loads. Copper conducts better and the connections stay stable, so the installation is safer.
